Beginning Photo-9 viewsThis photo is the original photo that was to be resized. Shown here it is very, very large at over 28 inches wide and 20 inches high. It is also over 1 megabyte in size. This is much too large to be shown in a webpage so we will shrink it down to approximately 20% of its original size. You are viewing a very small part of this photo now. We will now "Resize" it.

Step 1-10 viewsWith the picture showing in Irfanview, click on Image -> Resize. The Resize window will open.

Step 2-7 viewsOn the left side of the Resize window you will see "Set new size". Here is where you will make the only changes.

Step 3-6 viewsIn this same window, click on "inches".

Step 4-8 viewsIn this same window, click on click and drag to highlight the size of the picture's width. If there is a check mark in the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" at the bottom of this window then the height will automatically adjust. Set the new width to 8 or 10 inches. This should be large enough.

Step 5-7 viewsIn this same window, click on "OK".

Final View-5 viewsThis is the finished photo. It was reduced from over 1mb in size to just over 200KB in size. This is an 80% reduction in size. Save this file in the .jpeg format and it is ready to upload. If you wish to save the original photo, and we recommend this, then click on File -> Save As and it will save the file with a different name. Then you will have the original and Resized photo. Be sure to upload the resized photo, not the original one.
